Kalani first began his writing career in 1991, while on tour with Yanni. His first book was a collection of traditional rhythms that he printed at a local Kinkos in Tempe, AZ. He then went on to write and produce a series of instructional videos, shot at home and edited on his Mac. Upon gaining some success, he was invited to write a series of books for Alfred publishing. Since his first book, All About jembe, he has published nine for Alfred and one for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, the Music Makers program guide. In addition to writing his own material, Kalani helps aspiring writers by reviewing their work and providing feedback. For more about coaching and consulting, click here.
Kalani is the director of drumlesson.com, one of the first on-line instructional drumming resources. Since it’s creation in the mid-1990′s drumlesson.com has been recreated as a blog site and is currently undergoing some major revisions. It’s projected to be a major source of drum lessons on the web.
