The Drum Circle – A Musical Approach
This breakthrough guide takes the art of group drumming facilitation to the next level by focusing on musical techniques that anyone can use to shape and guide improvised group drumming experiences, or what are commonly known as “drum circles.” With many years of experience as a professional drummer, music educator, and music therapist, Kalani shares the secrets and keys to successful facilitation, without the need for talking, shouting, or conducting. This elegant approach borrows techniques from music therapy, Orff-Schulwerk, and Kalani’s personal experiences facilitating hundreds of events for diverse populations.
Facilitators who have participated in basic “DCF” training will find many new and useful strategies and ways of reaching social, personal, interpersonal, musical, and community goals using this elegant and unobtrusive approach. Footage of a small community drum circle as well as “real world” drum circles in Santa Barbara and Venice Beach, CA set the stage for a journey of discovery and growth.
